Make-up is considered as a form of Art and it has a strong historical background .Even in ancient times, make-up had its own value and this art develops with the development of human age.The early film industry naturally used the traditional styles of make-up techniques which proved inadequate soon.As time passes many makeup artists proved themselves and developed their techniques according to the time and needs.In film Industry when close-up became a need then face was the most focused feature and being a sensitive part facial make-up needed refinements.For this two well known make-up artists appeared in the Hollywood ,who were Max Factor (1877-1938) and George Westmore(1879-1931).Both started from wigmaking and recognised as the best make-up artists to make many make-up techniques and cosmetics for cinema.MGM was the only studio where Cecil Holand(1887-1973) was the make-up head in 1925 and remained till 1950s.Lon chaney (1883-1930) was a well known make-up artist who was considered as the pioneer ,he did make-up for a film Grand Hotel (1932) and the Good Earth (1937) and the most famous play "Phantom of Opera"(1925).Another great makeup artist wasJach dawn(1892-1961) who created make-up for the Wizard of Oz(1939).There are three kinds of makeup artists ,Straight make-up which is usually called as "street" through which actor's feature can be enhanced through cosmetics and corrective make-up.The second kind is Character make-up ,through which artist's looks changes by the use of facial prosthesis and other devices.The third one is special effects (FX)make-up in which mechanical devices like robotic inserts are used .Make-up artists developed a character's psychology,for this purpose they adapted cosmetic and technological inventions,to solve the colour problems and became expert of human anatomy and the potential effects of all artificial skin facial and hair treatments.In short, make-up artists are not just the the artists but the scientists too and have lots of scientific solutions along with the simple cosmetic tools.

Perfect Make-up

Perfect make-up is the real art to change the appearance in more confident and attractive way.A face can be transformed with the use of beauty tools i.e tweezers,shadows,a brow gel and brow brush ,eye-pencils etc .Make up becomes so simple when you know the perfect way to apply.If you have an organised make-up drawer it takes hardly 15 to 20 minutes to get good results.Practice is the key to success and a simple and basic look requires 10 steps in the right order. Before applying cosmetics you have to prepare your skin accordingly .First of all moisture your skin with suitable moisturisers which help to provide a perfect base for the make-up.For example for normal skin lightweight moisturiser lotion can be used ,for dry skin use a rich hydrated cream and for oily skin use oil-free formula to control the extra oil and help to smooth the oily skin.Try to use lightweight cream under eyes to enhance the smoothness of the concealer.For dull skin exfoliant should be applied for removing dead cells.
Following are the Ten steps for perfect make-up
Correcter/Concealer: The correcter of pink or peach should be used to neutralise the skin ,it can be applied with brush to deepest and darkest areas of the skin and preparing it for concealer application.Then take a yellow-based shades of concealer and layer them over the correcter underneath the eyes up to the lash line and then blend it with the finger tip for emerging.Then use pale yellow and white powder with puff or brush for balancing the concealer.Concealer should be one or two shades lighter than the skin tone.Apply concealer next to the inner corner of the eye to make your eye look bit brighter and fresh.
Foundation: To choose the perfect foundation ,apply it on the side of you face and forehead in the natural light ,the shade that disappears is the right one .Use the brush or sponge to apply foundation where the skin needs to be evened out especially both sides of the nose and mouth.
Powder: Apply loose powder in a pale-yellow shade with brush under the eyes and with puff for overall covering of face.Powder shade should be correct with your skin tone.
Blush: To apply blush smile and apply up wards the cheek bones and then down wards to light and blending softly.Apply dust shimmer powder on the cheeks to highlight and blend with your fingers.Always blow off excess powder from the blush brush before applying to get better results.
Lip stick: Lip Stick is the most prominent element of the cosmetics,so its shades should be natural and some darker from your lip's colour.Apply it directly through the tube and then use brush to give the darker line and to blend the harsh edges of your lips.
Lip Liner: Lip Liner is used after applying lip colour to blend the harsh areas of lips and to give a nice look to your lips.To make your lip colour better apply line and blend it before applying lip colour.
Eye Brows: Apply eye-pencil or shadows start from the inner corner of the brow and follow its natural shape .Arrange the brows with the brow -shaper .
Eye Shadow:Eye Shadow of soft and light colour should be started from the lash line to the brow end and fill it with contour colour to give the deep shape to your eye.
Eye Liner:Apply eye liner of dark colour at the upper lid of the eye and make it straight with the lid .If you want to apply eye liner to the bottom side as well then you should apply a soft line at the bottom and make sure that both lines will meet at the outer corner of the eye.
Mascara:Mascara should be choosed according to your eye lash thickness .Thickening mascara gives denser loot to the eye having sparse lash line.For applying mascara hold the mascara wand parallel to the floor and brush from the base of lash to the tips.Two or three coats are enough.
